It just seems like things are getting eaiser and eaiser to run on the new shiney Intel based Macs.

ITWire has an article that talks about this new program called cider. They claim that any PC game can be ported to OSX with just a few days of work.

"TransGaming has developed a 'portability engine', called Cider, that it claims can be incorporated into computer games built for Windows and enable then to run on Intel-based Macs "without arduous porting".
TransGaming claims to already have agreements in place with a number of the top tier video game publishers to bring their titles to the Intel Mac and says the first titles should be out the next few months. However, it claims that porting a game takes at most 'a few days."'

Been in Florida since Friday. Been a good relaxing time. I got several movies captured at an aligator farm. That was more fun than I expected. I'll post them when I get back.

Tomorow we go see a cival war fort. I really into to those lately. The last one I saw was Fort Sumpter. This is the fort where the first shots of the cival war were fired. Way cool IMO.

Vista on my box

I installed Vista today. So far it's feel quite a lot like another OS i've seen before.

Performance

So far it runs just about as well as XP does on the same box.
Appearance

Nice new flashy interface. I kinda like the Aero effects. But again..reminds me of another OS i've seen.

Drivers
The only driver Vista didn't pick up on install was my sound card. XP can't get that either so I'm not going to cry about it.

Ok, I've been digging around on google and it turns out the charges that hit us are a credit card processor from Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis, East Caribbean.

Futher digging finds that these processor is just their Accounts Recievable side of the business.
And that IMLTDPay.com is a DBA for Interactive Marketing, Ltd.

What does Interactive Marketing, Ltd. do? Well they sell every type of porn you can imagine. I hope whoever got their jollies off on my buck is satisfied cause the plug has been pulled on them.

I called the 1800 number for kicks and the lady who answered said she needed my entire card number before she could look up the transaction. Outstanding, who would have thought a shady operation would be coming out of the caribbean?

Things that piss me off

You know what kinda pisses me off? Debt collectors.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have no debt either personally or in business.
I don't borrow money anymore so I there is no reason for the scum to be calling my house.

However, many people with my last name DO owe credit card companies et al money. They call my place two or three times a week trying to root out these people. I always inform them they have the wrong number. It doesn't matter they call back anyway. They call me a liar just about everytime.

Nothing much can be done about this practice. They are attempting to piss me off enough to get whom ever it is they think I know to get in touch with them or to get any kind of info from me
that will help them "track" down the people.

I'm really close to cancelling my regular phone now. That is really the only solution I can see that will completely get rid of these low lifes. They'll never find my cell number because it isn't even listed in my name. Part of me wishes I knew it was a debt collector when before they call so I can "have fun" with them. I could alway bring out my old "personalities" i used while in high school for making crank calls.

There is Jim, the disabled veteran / prisoner in his own home who sells light bulbs over the phone. He has a nasty house keeper who beats him if he finds out that he is making phone calls not realted to the selling of lightbulbs.

Or I can be the "I can't touch meat guy" I would often call Pizza hut with and want to apply for a job. He would bring up the ADA and or EEOC when the manager said they couldn't remove meat from my work envronment.

Ohh the possibilties. If you can think of other funny tricks to play on these jokers feel free to post them in the comments. I'll do my best to record said calls and post them for the enjoyment of all.

The missiles are made of harmless, soft foam material. Unfortunately, they will need to be picked up after firing.

Here is one of the greatest obits i've ever seen. Frederic Arthur (Fred) Clark
Frederic Arthur (Fred) Clark, who had tired of reading obituaries noting other's courageous battles with this or that disease, wanted it known that he lost his battle as a result of an automobile accident on June 18, 2006. True to Fred's personal style, his final hours were spent joking with medical personnel while he whimpered, cussed, begged for narcotics and bargained with God to look over his wife and kids. He loved his family. His heart beat faster when his wife of 37 years Alice Rennie Clark entered the room and saddened a little when she left. His legacy was the good works performed by his sons, Frederic Arthur Clark III and Andrew Douglas Clark MD, PhD., along with Andy's wife, Sara Morgan Clark. Fred's back straightened and chest puffed out when he heard the Star Spangled Banner and his eyes teared when he heard Amazing Grace. He wouldn't abide self important tight censored. Always an interested observer of politics, particularly what the process does to its participants, he was amused by politician's outrage when we lie to them and amazed at what the voters would tolerate. His final wishes were "throw the bums out and don't elect lawyers" (though it seems to make little difference). During his life he excelled at mediocrity. He loved to hear and tell jokes, especially short ones due to his limited attention span. He had a life long love affair with bacon, butter, cigars and bourbon. You always knew what Fred was thinking much to the dismay of his friend and family. His sons said of Fred, "he was often wrong, but never in doubt". When his family was asked what they remembered about Fred, they fondly recalled how Fred never peed in the shower - on purpose. He died at MCV Hospital and sadly was deprived of his final wish which was to be run over by a beer truck on the way to the liquor store to buy booze for a double date to include his wife, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter to crash an ACLU cocktail party. In lieu of flowers, Fred asks that you make a sizable purchase at your local ABC store or Virginia winery (please, nothing French - the censored) and get rip roaring drunk at home with someone you love or hope to make love to. Word of caution though, don't go out in public to drink because of the alcohol related laws our elected officials have passed due to their inexplicable terror at the sight of a MADD lobbyist and overwhelming compulsion to meddle in our lives. No funeral or service is planned. However, a party will be held to celebrate Fred's life. It will be held in Midlothian, Va. Email fredsmemory@yahoo.com for more information. Fred's ashes will be fired from his favorite cannon at a private party on the Great Wicomico River where he had a home for 25 years. Meh..2.5 out of 5. I just didn't dig it. It felt like the entire movie was a set up
for the next movie. The characters seemed a bit lifeless, ironc since they aren't supposed undead anymore. HA!

If you want to see a 2.5 hour movie with decent special effects and some action this is a good flick. Even then though it feels like it should have ended 45 minutes earlier than it did. They opened up a lot of questions that either got answered poorly or left them open for the next flick. I know you are supposed to have a hook (pardon the pun) but there were too many and I feel it will leave people confused more than anything.

Going balls out this week! Our friend trin is moving in this weekend and we are getting the room ready. Been getting lots of books and old clothes together and have been donating what we don't need anymore. It's a freeing thing getting rid of stuff you don't need or want anymore.

Been moving all the PCs, servers, routers, etc as well. I get a weird satisfaction with that part too. We have the technology, we have the know-how, we can rebuild him.

Nitix to the rescue

I'm a big fan on the linux distro Nitix. Today nitix quickly saved our collective asses in the IT Department. We had our firewall up and die on use today thus cutting off all Internet access in and out of the office. My first thought was to go pick up a cheap linksys box to take the place of our firewall until the RMA replacement came in.

Then I thought, "Hey I have spare Nitix box sitting here. Let's try this first." I simply changed the private IP of the box to our firewall's IP and bam "Nuttin but net". Nitix figured out the rest of the routes to get the net up and running and configured it's firewall accordingly. It took an additional 10 seconds to forward Citrix traffic through. Not bad huh?

We were invited to the premier of Adam sandler's 'click' last night.

I had low expectations for this movie and was pleaently surprised. The show drags a little but in the middle but redeems itself in the end. Its worth a see.

Gonna see body worlds and Ur exhibits today.

Saw both exhibits today. The Ur exhibit was decent but too short. I think it was because there are three museums with the artifacts and this was just the items from the Museum of Penn. They basically featured pottery and jewelry from royal grave site. Kind of neat but I was hoping for something more in-depth about the society they found than just their burial practices.

We also saw the much famed Body Worlds 3. This exhibit was an experience to say the least. To learn more about it go here: link.

The bodies resemble a lot like the plastic models from your high school bio class. However, they were real people. There are some bodies cut open and you can get within inches on them. I was so amazed by the presentation that there were times when I was looking inside the abdominal cavity of someone then I realized, “Hey this guy was alive just a few years ago.” This caused me to step back a bit and see the display differently.

It’s amazing how we can display our bodies post mortem. Our bodies are truly amazing machines that are awe inspiring. If you haven’t seen this exhibit I high recommend it.

So we had tons of rain today in Houston. Our power went out so by the time we woke up it was already after 7:00 a.m. By the time we managed to get ready the wife's office already called and said don't come in. The news showed our major access to the city as pretty much shut down until the water subsided. link

So I've spent the day working from home today. Calling and e-mailing clients trying to get a few small projects pushed along. It was a nice change from being in the office. I was still able to get quite a bit done but not have the hassle of driving in and the like.

And now I shall go play video games for several hours.... not.

A buddy of mine and I were reminsing of the old days of technology. Well before high speed connections and crazy flash websites. It was at the birth of the Internet. An Internet were the WWW wasn't the dominat method of sharing information. We used a hybrid of BBSes and IRC and PINE to get our job done.

I remember the days of 2400 baud modems. Then we were blessed with speedy 9600 baud and then a ludicris 14,400 baud. Those were the days of 3l33t BBSes, the birth of shell accounts and a baby network of IRC servers. We used MSDOS 5.0, 6.22, and the occasional windows 3.1.

We played Doom and R.O.T.T. over dialup modems. We got disconnected if our parents unknowingly picked up the phone or we forgot to turn off call waiting during a deathmatch session.
We made our own custom levels and played away our summers in blasts of digital gunfire.

Those really were the days. It was an interesting time. Not that today isn't a interesting but it was different back then. It was the begining, a genesis of all that we have now. Being a part of that was a unique experience and I am better for it. It shaped my eventual carrer, social, and educational choices, most likely for the rest of my life.

In myth busters season 1 Ep 2 they partially busted the "myth" that a normal CDROM won't break in a CDROM drive:

Well we achieved the breakage of a CDROM today in a standard CDROM drive.

Freaky stuff. We were working on a client PC and my cowoker just put in the office CD to install office. About 15 seconds later we hear a loud pop and then the CDROM drive sounded like a blender. Now our office CD is in a million peices.

Yeah I don't know why I started a blog. It's the techno geek inside me that has to try all the new, or semi-new, ok..even old tech as blogging. I may or may not continue using this. The ability to post from my cell phone and do audio blogging has me all geeked out. We'll see.
